Mission:
Echos on the Deck
Location: Armory
Captain Greene entered the armory to find Chief Petty Officer Alexa Truman directing the staff on their daily assignments. To think that the daily workings of maintaining the security on a ship could be a lot most days. But throughout the years, he adapted and had a routine. A routine that eventually bored him, and he knew that he needed more from Starfleet. Before coming down and visiting the Chief. Maddox had done his research, going through her personnel record. A former MACO who switched over to Starfleet Armory when talks of phasing out the MACOs were heavily discussed. No blemishes, but was very strict and still ran things like a typical MACO. Other than this death, which clearly was an accident. Her record was an exemplary one.
Alexa had been running a tight station, especially with everything that had taken place involving the Nausicaans over the last few days. Spotting the Captain, ended all talks and quickly approached, taking the position of attention. "Sir."
"At ease Chief," Maddox instructed. "Just came down here to check things out and have a word with you."
"Assuming that word has something to do with the paralyzed Nausicaan in sickbay, Sir?"
Greene couldn't help but smile at the bluntness. "It's kind of the elephant in the room. Also, you waited twenty-two hours before alerting Starfleet on the incident. Must admit that such a decision gives me quite a bit of concern."
Before speaking Alexa took a deep breath calming herself. "I was honestly hoping to resolve things in house. That's when the Admiral arrived with a proper doctor, that the issue wouldn't be as bad as assumed. Clearly it turn out that his condition was on the worse end."
"That was not the right decision," Maddox interrupted. "In the future, don't hold back relaying that type of information ASAP. Understood?"
"Yes Sir," Truman spoke up. But yet low enough not to draw too much attention.
Now that was out the way, it was time to move forward with the issue at hand. "You decided to keep the Nausicaans detained?"
"Felt it would be a good idea to prevent retaliation," she answered. "The Admiral instructed me to leave them detained until otherwise instructed. Are you considering cutting them loose?"
"Not at the moment. How is Crewman Mays faring with everything going on?"
Shocked that the Captain moved from scolding her to being concerned over the young man on her staff. "Not doing too well. The kid is guilt-ridden by doing exactly things by the book. I'm well aware of how politics works and how someone is going to have to take the blame for this. Mays doesn't deserve what's coming."
"Chief, I read all the eyewitness reports and watched the video footage before coming to speak with you," the Captain responded. "I have no intent on placing any blame on the Crewman. This was an accident; that could have been avoided if the Nausicaans hadn't started a fight and pullout a dagger on the armory staff. Let him take the next week off from work to relax and set his mind right. And please let him know this time off is due to no wrongdoing."
"I will relay the message."
Next thing, they need to address was the current security situation. Looking around the department, Maddox returned to a more serious tone. "The Admiral will be shipping off in the morning. Based on past experience with those similar types and the Nausicaans themselves, we should expect their people to show up."
Alexa nodded in agreement. "I agree with that assessment Captain. My guess is that they're posted up somewhere just waiting for the station to be vulnerable again."
"I'm told that the defenses on this station are now fully operational?" the Captain inquired.
"That would be correct."
A simple grin appeared across his face. "Excellent, I want this station to be prepared when they do decide to come back. The Frontier will be dedicated to remaining at the station full time, unless out patrolling or handling some other task. But it won't be too far away."
Raising an eyebrow in confusion, Truman found herself having to ask the obvious. "But will a Ganges class be enough?"
"The Frontier is a refitted Ganges class," Maddox informed her. "She has some sharp teeth that will get the job done. Nausicaans or anyone else popping up on this station with plans to wreak havoc will quickly find that to be a thing of the past."
"So, what do you need for me, Sir?"
"I need you to get your people and run drills in anticipation of a possible conflict. Also, I need you to come up with a plan to increase security in case we do have an influx of Nausicaan visitors. Now, if you excuse me, I have to get down to the shuttlebay and meet our new First Officer."
