Mission:
Echos on the Deck
Location: Sentinel Station, Ops
Timeline: 16 Hours Before Nausicaans' Arrival
The doors to Captain Greene's office had barely hissed shut behind them when Rik'koshvar began speaking. "You have spoken of seeking new opportunities for the past six months--"
Ignoring the curious glances of Starfleet personnel, T'Vei moved across Ops, noting each station's specialty. Operations, science, engineering....
"--Now one presents itself to you and you say that you need time to think about it? Your actions are illogical," Rik'koshvar continued.
Armory console identified, T'Vei began to familiarize herself with the layout. "No. It would be illogical to agree to a posting without a trial period or without sufficient knowledge of the commanding officer, the crew, or the station's mission."
"We reviewed available data on Captain Greene, Sentinel Station, and the station personnel during transit. You will not learn much more in the next day," Rik'koshvar said.
"Where is tractor beam control?" T'Vei asked, scanning the console. Rik'koshvar leaned over and indicated one of the corners of the console.
T'Vei nodded her thanks. "I need to discuss it with my fiancee. A transfer to Starlfeet and to a stationary installation may have ramifications for our engagement."
"Positive ramifications," Rik'koshvar said. "You have long considered how to serve and explore when you have obligations back on Vulcan. Sentinel could allow you to do both."
"Could. It is far too premature to know," T'Vei said, her tone tightening almost imperceptibly. The thought of such a change in her life made her....uneasy, a feeling that kept clawing at her no matter how deep she buried it. She was uncertain as to why and would have to meditate upon it when circumstances allowed.
She pressed a button on the console. "Sublieutenant T'Vei to Chief Truman, please report to the armory."
She closed the channel and regarded Rik'koshvar steadily. "And I presume you will be staying regardless of my decision?"
"That is my intention," Rik'koshvar said. "But I would prefer if you remained. We have always worked well together and I would appreciate this posting more with another Vulcan's perspective. I implore you, T'Vei. Think about this decision logically. You will find your answer."
"I will," she agreed earnestly. "However, we have much work to accomplish in the next sixteen hours. We should focus on preparing the station for now."
Rik'koshvar inclined his head in acknowledgment. "Although I am reluctant to end a debate without a clear victor, I will defer for now. To the armory?"
"Indeed. We will meet the personnel under our command and assign duties," T'Vei said. "We do not face the challenges ahead alone."
