Yesterday, I arrived at the station eager to get started with the mission of bringing the worlds of this region together. I was well aware when taking this assignment that it would be no easy task. But I welcomed the challenge and felt that my experience made me more than qualified for the job. Before even exiting the docking ring, I found myself presented with the issue of an injured Nausicaan paralyzed from the waist down. Yes, the incident was the fault of the Nausicaans, but the word going around was that this man's family was seeking justice, which was nothing more than retaliation against the young man in security who was simply doing his job. The armory officer in me wants to tell the Nausicaans to go to hell. But being the commanding officer of this station in such a delicate situation. I don't have the luxury of using those words.

Admiral Vedak's ship left the station and has conveniently left this mess in my hands. Interesting Vulcan's claim to be great at diplomacy but end up completely dropping the ball at getting people in a room together and resolving differences. It's only a matter of time, now that Admiral has departed, that a representative will show up making demands. And likely wanting the release of their men and some sort of compensation. Guess I will learn more as the situation continues to unfold. If there's one thing I learned from working with the diplomats on Terra Nova was to never go into a situation with preconceived notions. Yes, you should prepare for multiple variables. But never completely believe that you know exactly what the other person is thinking.

Finding a balance in this situation will be tricky. All eyes were definitely going to be on the station. According to reports from Starfleet Intelligence, the Xindi factions had been split since their Civil War a couple of years back. If it's true, the Reptilians weren't even allowed to hold any major military positions and their military was dismantled. Perhaps it would be wise to bring representatives from each Xindi faction to begin a dialogue. The Federation is very eager to bring in more worlds. Yes, the benefits of additional members are undeniable. Especially with the success of the founding members. But with each new member comes new ideas on how things should be conducted. Many voices with many viewpoints. Each world wants to make a name for itself and wants to gain more influence. Could the Federation get to the point of being too big?

But on a more personal note, my mother continues to badger me about finally finding a wife and settling down. Before coming to the station, I spent two weeks on Earth visiting my parents and brother, Antonio, in Santo Domingo. My brother is married with three children. And it was a joy getting to finally meet the younger two in person. I've been away from Earth for so long with the second fleet patrolling the Romulan Neutral Zone. Shore leave was rarely taken too far away. My parents both had questions about my past relationship with Rybel zh'lon, who served as the tactical officer on my previous assignment. Things were going well for two years, but ultimately our careers were sending us in different directions. No hard feelings. This is just the life that we have chosen and accepted.
