| Personal History | Nyxala Vireen was born in 2140 in the Khelaris Trade Enclave, located in the Orion Syndicates medical and logistics ports. Her family held a respected position within Orion as medical specialist. Her mother Saelira was a trauma nurse assigned to transport fleets and her father Vorex was a logistics medic. Both were silent dissenters who believed that survival was based on a moral responsibility. From an early age, Nyxala was exposed to the harsh realities of Orion life, which consisted of enslaves laborers, expenadable crews and medicine thath was reserved for profit rather than the focus on saving lives. By the time, she was six years old, Nyxala was assisting her parents in unofficial medical roles within the trade hubs and transport docks. This have gave her a broad exposure to various species. In 2156 at the age of 16, Nyxala refused an order to assist in unethical medical procedure. Upsetting the Syndicate, her parents knew that there would be fall out. Secretly arranging passage, they had their daughter moved to neutral space. During this time Vireen found herself working with independent humanitarian groups. Working with various individuals consisting of pirates, refugees and even law enforcement. At some point, Nyxala came contact with a Starfleet vessel and was impressed with their medical staff and their moral obligation to preserve life. Six years later, Nyxala applied for Starfleet Academy, being recommended for the Medical program by Lt. Commander Trisha Payne. The one doctor, who believed that even as an Orion was capable of so much more. One of the stipulations for acceptance was to take injections that were take away her pheromones. But even, then, there were students who believed that she was somehow manipulating the instructors. It was hard to determine if the make students were simply wanted to befriend her or wanted to be around her based on the sterotypes of Orion women. Many of the females at the Academy wanted nothing to do with her based on the very sterotype as well. Over the years, she managed to earn the respect of some students and even managed to make a few friends. But most of the time, it was lonely for her. After graduating in 2166, Starfleet Command which made it a point to keep a close eye on her. Felt that she was not quite ready and was denied immediate ship duty and was placed in the Starfleet Reserves over the next two years. Over the next two years, Nyxala was assigned to various humanitarian assignments. With each posting, it a little bit to earn the trust of fellow officers, enlisted and civilians. But the end result was all the same with the crew realizing her main goal was to save lives. Being impressed, Starfleet Academy has finally allowed Vireen to step outside of the Reserves to active duty status. |
